Nostalgia for the ol days
While I was at Grants place perusing his massive CD collection, I found the Inspector Moog CD - Wait!. Far out, quite possibly the most underated NZ pop band ever. I still remember most of the words, even the surreal ( but clever) lyrics to Milk biscut boy. I had to borrow it and have been listening to it for days now.
It reminds me of my band groupy days in Hamilton. Hanging out with Zed at Ward lane or JBC. Watching Rumpus room and Schrodingers cat play what seemed like every weekend. Staying till the venues closed because we had to pack out the P.A. system. And coming home stinking of cigarettes because you could still smoke in bars back then.
Well they were good times, and bloody amazing bands too. When I listen to some of the old songs I am amazed at how good they are. H-town certainly was producing quality sounds back then. Schrodinger's cat really kicked arse y'know!

Restaurant delivery
If you get sick of boring ol crap takeaways, yet still cant be bothered cooking a meal there is a neato service you can try.
Its called food runner, and they pick up food from your favourite restaurant and delivery it right to your door.
Restaurants supported by my area include Palace of India, GPK, Aubergine, One Red Dog and more.
Check it out.

Heroes Starts Soon
Only five more days to go till episode 12. I f you're not watching it already, you should start. Its real life meets the X-men and although sometimes dogged by cheesy bad American dialogue mostly its good fun stuff. It took me a few episodes to get really into it but now I'm hooked.
Happy Birthday Alan!
Well another year has passed by and you still haven't retired. Don't think we're going to throw you another retirement party!!! Happy Birthday Big Al. Hope you guys are having a great time up north. And go easy on that knee!

New Oven!
Woohoo! Our new oven arrives tomorrow. And thank goodness. I can't believe the state the previous owners of this house left the kitchen. The oven was so disgusting and even after you clean and clean it all I can see is the filth, not to mention what was down the sides and behind the oven. I wont even describe it (lets just say it even made zed gag.) Anyway I have cleaned the oven space and its all ready for my brand new tiny little European oven. Just perfect for us two. I've had my eye on it for a while and just last week it went on sale 20% off! So I made Zed buy it for me. Its a little extravagant but honestly that "other" oven was a nightmare. So here's to domestic bliss and new ovens!

Star Trek the cartoon
Surely I deserve this for my birthday.
I mean check it out, its was the only star trek in between that first series and Star trek the motion picture. Skilled animators even made Shatner look buff!
More Sticky Things
This one was a lot harder to spot, looks more like a stick and not like a neon glow stick. I spotted this fella (shiela?) as I was putting the tools away after a hard days gardening. I planted two things! Which was hard work because a) it was on a steepish bank, and b) it was into clay, so I had to dig a giant hole and fill it with compost so the plants wont die. Anyway Im going to buy some native trees in the weekend to put down the back of the garden, I'm looking for plants that will attach the birds. So perhaps a kowhai for tuis and something from here for the wood pigeons.
Up close they could almost be cute.

Electrical malfunction Day
okay so the little motor that winds up my car aerial is farked, it just wurrs and wurrs churning round and round never actually making the aerial move. Then the electric window on the driver side died (but if you are googling around trying to look for a diagram you need to say "power window" or you'll never find anything). So Zed took the whole door apart and I found out about something called mastic (which is like very sticky runny plastic) only to discover that japanese cars use plastic cogs and they wear out after 15 years. Damn. THEN in the final exasperation with all things electrical the blender decided to start smelling of burning plastic and belch out white puffs of smoke. AWESOME!
But hey its okay, cause Zed took me for a ride out to Bethells beach on his new bike and we only got lost a little bit. It was cool. Its those kind of rides that make me wish I had a brand new bike too!

Big Stick
What a wee beasty. This lovely bright green thing must be colour blind if it thought it could hide from my eagle eyes. Our new house is surrounded by a lot more trees so I am constantly being delighted by all the new insects, I haven't seen a massive stick insect like this since I lived up north. Weta's are also living at the bottom of my garden. Plus our garden is under the flight path of native wood pigeons (kereru), always amazed those plump birds can even fly, plus the added bonus of the swooping sounds their wings make. Its nature in the suburbs.
And now for a poll, head or bum end?

Holiday to Kerikeri
Apart for the wait to get through Wellsford (honestly they never should have put a McDonalds there) the trip up north was uneventful. Just lots of 4x4s with boats clogging up the roads.
Zed and I took the kids to stay at my mums new place in Kerikeri. We drank lots of wine, the kids splashed about in the pool, we ate too much and generally a good time was had by all. We did get out for a few activities. we checked out rainbow falls and cruised the arty places till the boys were dying of boredom, so it was back to mums place for a swim in the pool and more wine drinking.
I spent quite a few years living in Kerikeri and although the place has changed a lot since then I still get a coming home feeling when I go there. If I could afford a holiday home I would buy it in Kerikeri. Its still a very relaxing place to go (despite the exponential growth) and it has a lot of chickens ( apparently, do a flickr search for Kerikeri, you'll see what I mean.)
